I understand that the meetings are currently scheduled to be in-person at the Lyons Community Library. These meetings will take place on the second Tuesday of each month: Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, 2024, Feb. 13, 2024, Mar. 12, 2024, Apr. 9, 2024, and May 14 , 2024(Required) I understand that in order to engage in these difficult conversations around issues of social justice including race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual identity, abilities, and age, that participants are asked to consistently attend the meetings in order to build community and grow together.(Required) I understand that SEED Seminar participants will have a range of experiences and understanding of these topics, and I commit to being honest and respectful in my discourse. I understand and expect that I may not always feel comfortable, but I commit to helping create a brave space where we can all share our truths.(Required) I understand that we will use readings, film, and audio to gain access to new perspectives and ideas, and I commit to coming to our meeting prepared to engage with others about the material.(Required) People come to SEED with a range of identities, experiences, and orientations toward social justice work. How would you describe your own diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice stance? What beliefs and values do you hold as you approach this work? Your answers will be kept confidential.)(Required) I strive to see the dignity and humanity in all of us. I am my ancestors' wildest dreams. I seek to create a safe and brave space in my dominant-culture institution, organization, or community. No justice, no peace! If you aren't angry, then you're not paying attention. I believe that equal rights for others doesn't mean less rights for you. We will not have justice without reparations. I'm proud to be at an institution, organization, community that is a leader in this work. I am exhausted by this work and looking for restoration and repair. I am proud to be part of a great institution, organization, or community and becoming more diverse and inclusive will only make us better. The change I am seeking will so radically change my institution, organization, or community that it may longer recognize itself. People are generally good, and ignorance is the root of much evil. This country was founded on genocidal, exploitative, White, Christian, cishet Patriarchy. We should expect social inequity to exist and perpetuate itself. I seek to see and hold multiple truths. I'm not sure. I am still learning, and there is still so much that I don't know.
