Building Progress Update

The fence is down and now is the perfect time to take a walk down Railroad Avenue and enjoy the full impact of the red sandstone juxtaposed against the dark grey board and batten siding and natural wood beams on the new Lyons Community Library. The new library will offer multiple outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy; the front porch welcomes visitors while two flagstone patios on the east and west ends of the building invite you to soak up the sun with a good read. Work continues outside this month on the west patio, the children’s garden and landscaping.

The progress on the interior continues, final paint colors are on the walls, lighting fixtures and fans have been hung and the carpets in the children’s area have been installed. Acoustic panels have been installed in the Community Room, as have the two garage doors which will be used to open up the space to the rest of the library and to the outdoors. Of special note is the tile work being installed in the lobby; Cathy Rivers and Priscilla Cohan conceived and implemented the Clarifier Project and are now spearheading the tile installation at the library. These tiles were painted by community members between 2006 and 2009 and have now found a home in the new Library.
