Fly Fishing 101

Date: Wednesday, May 9th, 2018

Join the Library in welcoming our friends from Rocky Mountain Anglers as they teach the basics of fly fishing. Learn the minimum needed to start reeling ’em in!

 

Ongoing Programs

We have events for all ages. Please stop in for more information. Most programs are family programs but we do have some age specific programs. Adult programs are for those ages 18 and up, Teen programs are for those entering 6th grade through those entering 12th grade. Kids are those entering kindergarten through those entering 5th grade. Babies are ages four and under.

Word Wednesdays with author Kayann Short PhD

Next Date: Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 (The first Wednesday of every month)

Time: Starting at 6:30pm and ending at 8pm

Open to: All ages and levels of writing experience

Have a writing project underway or an inspiration that needs nudging? Join other local writers at the Lyons Regional Library on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss projects, share tips, and offer a listening ear. Facilitated by Dr. Kayann Short, award-winning teacher and author of A Bushel’s Worth: An Ecobiography, this informal and free monthly gathering is for anyone with an interest in writing of any flavor.

Art-4-Art Trading Cards

Next Date: Saturday, April 21st, 2018 (The third Saturday of every month)

Come join the Lyons Regional Library and Art-4-Art on the third Saturday of every month for some friendly trading of Art Trading Cards (ATC), swapping in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Never been? Don’t know what it is? Come to the Library and find out for yourself! All ages welcome.

Fun Chess with Aaron Caplan

Date(s): Every Monday that the St. Vrain Valley School District is in session. If the St. Vrain Valley School District is not in session, we do not have chess (this is true for holidays, snow days, etc.). There is no chess over the summer.

Time: Starting at 2:45pm and ending at 3:30pm

Location: Lyons Regional Library, 405 Main Street, Lyons

Open to: Ages 6 to 14

Registration: Not Required

Come drop on in for a fun and interactive atmosphere with volunteer Aaron Caplan and play some chess! All levels of experience are welcomed; we provide the chess sets, but you are free to bring your own as well. WE WILL NOT HAVE CHESS ON PRESIDENT’S DAY (March 19th). The LIBRARY IS CLOSED. 

Senior Book Club at Walt Self Center
This program is run by the Town of Lyons

Next Date: Thursday, April 19th, 2018 (The third Thursday of every month)

Time: Starting at Noon

Location: Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue, Lyons

Open to: Seniors

Registration: Not Required

On the third Thursday of every month, the Senior book club meets at the Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue in Lyons. Anyone who has read or wishes to discuss the current book is welcome! This event is ongoing and is sponsored by the Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department. The Library can help find books for the book club in a variety of formats, just let us know by stopping in.  This program is free and open to the public.

Tech Assistance

If you have a smartphone, tablet, computer, or other tech device you need help with, or questions about Facebook, E-mail, or finding something on the internet, the Lyons Regional Library is here to help you. Assistance is available any time of the week by appointment. If you have a group and would like to have group instruction we do that too! All ages are welcome and instruction is without charge. When you make your appointment please let us know what your tech issues are so we can be prepared

Dark Skies Presentation

How dark are the skies over Lyons? Find out what local home school students the “Roarie Bummlers” discovered as they worked with the Boulder County Parks & Open Space measuring our local skies for light pollution. How was this measured and what were the results? Are Dark Skies initiatives safer for our communities? Find out first hand from these student scientists. Learn how you can measure your own skies.
