PERSPECTIVES: An Evening in Conversation with authors
Jennifer Lynch and Cristina Trapani-Scott

For two Boulder County authors, breast cancer made an indelible mark on each of their lives. Now, Jennifer Lynch and Cristina Trapani-Scott are each set to release books that explore their individual experiences as caregiver and survivor. They will be launching their books at Lyons Regional Library and hosting an evening of readings, conversation, and refreshments.

Ongoing Programs

We have events for all ages. Please stop in for more information. Most programs are family programs but we do have some age specific programs. Adult programs are for those age 18 and up, Teen programs are for those entering 6th grade through those entering 12th grade. Kids are those entering kindergarten through those entering 5th grade. Babies are ages four and under.

Word Wednesdays with author Kayann Short PhD

Next Date: Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 (The first Wednesday of every month)

Time: Starting at 6:30pm and ending at 8pm

Open to: All ages and levels of writing experience

Registration: Not Required

Have a writing project underway or an inspiration that needs nudging? Join other local writers at the Lyons Regional Library on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss projects, share tips, and offer a listening ear. Facilitated by Dr. Kayann Short, award-winning teacher and author of A Bushel’s Worth: An Ecobiography, this informal and free monthly gathering is for anyone with an interest in writing of any flavor.

Art-4-Art Trading Cards

Next Date: Saturday, January 20th, 2018 (The third Saturday of every month)

Time: Starting at 12:30pm

Come join the Lyons Regional Library and Art-4-Art on the third Saturday of every month for some friendly trading of Art Trading Cards (ATC), swapping in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Never been? Don’t know what it is? Come to the Library and find out for yourself! All ages welcome.

Fun Chess with Aaron Caplan

Date(s): Every Monday that the St. Vrain Valley School District is in session. If the St. Vrain Valley School District is not in session, we do not have chess (this is true for holidays, snow days, etc.). There is no chess over the summer.

Time: Starting at 2:45pm and ending at 3:30pm

Location: Lyons Regional Library, 405 Main Street, Lyons

Open to: Ages 6 to 14

Registration: Not Required

Come drop on in for a fun and interactive atmosphere with volunteer Aaron Caplan and play some chess! All levels of experience are welcomed; we provide the chess sets, but you are free to bring your own as well.

Senior Book Club at Walt Self Center
This program is run by the Town of Lyons

Next Date: Thursday, January 18th, 2018 (The third Thursday of every month)

Time: Starting at Noon

Location: Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue, Lyons

Open to: Seniors

Registration: Not Required

On the third Thursday of every month, the Senior book club meets at the Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue in Lyons. Anyone who has read or wishes to discuss the current book is welcome! This event is ongoing and is sponsored by the Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department. The Library can help find books for the book club in a variety of formats, just let us know by stopping in.  This program is free and open to the public.

If you have a smartphone, tablet, computer, or other tech device you need help with, or questions about Facebook, E-mail, or finding something on the internet, the Lyons Regional Library is here to help you. Assistance is available any time of the week by appointment. If you have a group and would like to have group instruction we do that too! All ages are welcome and instruction is without charge.

Make it Click: Taking Better Family Photos

Are you a parent struggling to capture beautiful photos of your children? Did you spend a small fortune on a camera only to see it gathering dust because it wasn’t turning out the photos of your dreams? Get your camera working for you and learn tips and techniques for fabulous family photos with the 90 minute photography basics class by Lyons-based photographer Gina McLaughlin by Gina McLaughlin Photography.

Holiday All Ages Storytime + Craft, Wednesday, 10:30am, Dec. 20th at the Library

Music! Movement! Plus take home a Holiday Craft! Everyone is welcome.

Tomie dePaola wrote “My First Chanukah” describes the traditional celebration of Chanukah, including the lighting of candles on the menorah, the eating of latkes, and the spinning of the dreidl. “The Night Before Christmas” is the traditional poem beautifully illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa. And then for fun we have the NY Times bestselling “Snowmen All Year.” This book answers the question of what happens when you take a snowman to the beach or take them trick or treating? Then join us for a creative craft to take home!

LEGO Bowling Machine Workshop

Date: Saturday, December 9th

Time: Starting at 2pm and ending at 4pm

Location: Lyons Regional Library, 405 Main Street, Lyons

Open to: Ages 5-12

Registration: Yes. Call 303-823-5165, or sign up in-person at the library. Space is limited.

Students will get to build their own LEGO Bowling machine, and will use motorized machines to bowl down the pins or other creations they make. Students will learn about gears, leverage and friction with this hands-on workshop! *Please note students will not get to keep their LEGO creations.
