We have events for all ages. Please stop in for more information. Most programs are family programs but we do have some age specific programs. Adult programs are for those age 18 and up, Teen programs are for those entering 6th grade through those entering 12th grade. Kids are those entering kindergarten through those entering 5th grade. Babies are ages four and under.

Author David Baron comes to the Library for Writing in November (WIN!)

Popular non-fiction writer David Baron will discuss writing and more at our Library. Baron is the author of “Beast in the Garden” and most recently “American Eclipse.” Baron is a journalist, author, and broadcaster who has spent his thirty-year career largely in public radio. He has worked as an environment correspondent for NPR, a science reporter for Boston’s WBUR, and health and science editor for PRI’s The World. His written work has appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Daily Beast, Boston Globe, Outside, Lonely Planet, Mental Floss, and Reader’s Digest.

Baron is an avid umbraphile who has witnessed six total solar eclipses, David has crossed the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia to catch the shadow of the moon.

The Lyons Regional Library District is proud to be a “Come Write In” site for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). We’ll be providing a space for writers to work collaboratively or individually. Come on in, settle down, and write, write, write!

Have a writing project underway or an inspiration that needs nudging? Join other local writers at the Lyons Regional Library on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss projects, share tips, and offer a listening ear. Facilitated by Dr. Kayann Short, award-winning teacher and author of A Bushel’s Worth: An Ecobiography, this informal and free monthly gathering is for anyone with an interest in writing of any flavor.

Fun Chess with Aaron Caplan

Dates: Every Monday that the St. Vrain Valley School District is in session, if it is not in session we do not have chess (this is true for holidays, snow days, etc.)

Come drop on in for a fun and interactive atmosphere with volunteer Aaron Caplan and play some chess! All levels of experience are welcomed; we provide the chess sets, but you are free to bring your own as well.

Senior Book Club at Walt Self Center

On the third Thursday of every month, the Senior book club meets at the Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue in Lyons. Anyone who has read or wishes to discuss the current book is welcome! This event is ongoing and is sponsored in partnership with the Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department. The book for book club is available through the library in a variety of formats. Just contact us and let us know. Come join us for a lively and fun discussion! This program is free and open to the public.

Want to learn how to use FaceBook? Download a free E-Book? Do research on the Internet? Download Apps? Bring your tech device and tech questions to the Lyons Regional Library, where our staff is available to help! Assistance is available any time of the week by appointment. If you have a group and would like to have group instruction we do that too! All ages are welcome and instruction is without charge.

    Thanks to a Goodwill Grant from the Town of Lyons Mental Health Professional Janaki Jane will facilitate an conversation about mental health in our community and lives. Learn realities about mental illness and how mental health affects our community and how the Lyons area can best respond to the challenges and opportunities this presents.
