We have events for all ages. Please stop in for more information. Most programs are family programs but we do have some age specific programs. Adult programs are for those age 18 and up, Teen programs are for those entering 6th grade through those entering 12th grade. Kids are those entering kindergarten through those entering 5th grade. Babies are ages four and under.

Live Stream of Eclipse and Glasses Sharing Event

10:15 am, Live Stream from NASA and eclipse sharing event (inside or outside the library as you wish). Free and all ages welcome!

Eating Well on $6 a Day (a Common Cents for Colorado program)

Join us in welcoming Janaki Jane who will let us in on the secrets of eating well on $6.00 a day.  Participants can win a programmable 6-quart crock pot, get tips and tricks for saving money, learn how to create flavorful meals, and share their ideas.  Everyone gets links to great recipes and terrific handouts.

Word Wednesdays with author Kayann Short, Ph.D.

Have a writing project underway or an inspiration that needs nudging? Join other local writers at the Lyons Regional Library on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss projects, share tips, and offer a listening ear. Facilitated by Dr. Kayann Short, award-winning teacher and author of A Bushel’s Worth: An Ecobiography, this informal and free monthly gathering is for anyone with an interest in writing of any flavor.

 NASA Citizen Science!

Stop by the library every Saturday to learn how to become a citizen scientist for NASA. Our Librarians will teach you how to use NASA’s new GLOBE Observer app which will help NASA learn about cloud cover in our area, and the NASA’s Eyes app which will get everyone pumped for the total solar eclipse coming up on August 21st!

Art-4-Art Trading Cards

Come join the Lyons Regional Library and Art-4-Art for some friendly trading of Art Trading Cards (ATC), swapping in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Never been? Don’t know what it is? Come to the library and find out for yourself! All ages welcome. 3rd Saturday of every month

  • Fun Chess with Aaron Caplan

    • Mondays, 3 pm to 3:45 pm, Starting again (after summer break) on Sept. 11, 2017
  • Kids ages 6-14 learn chess in a fun and interactive atmosphere with volunteer Aaron Caplan
  • No registration necessary, just drop-in, all levels welcome
  • We provide the chess sets or bring your own.
  • If the St. Vrain Valley School District is in session we have chess; if it is not in session we do not have chess (this is true for holidays, snow days, etc.)
  •  Senior Book Club at Walt Self Center

    On the third Thursday of every month, the Senior book club meets at the Walt Self Senior Center, 355 Railroad Avenue in Lyons. Anyone who has read or wishes to discuss the current book is welcome! This event is ongoing and is sponsored in partnership with the Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department. The book for book club is available through the library in a variety of formats. Just contact us and let us know. Come join us for a lively and fun discussion! This program is free and open to the public.

    The next event is Thursday, August 17th, location in Sandstone Park (weather permitting) at 12:30 pm. The book is “All the Light we Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr.

    Want to learn how to use FaceBook? Download a free E-Book? Do research on the Internet? Download Apps? Bring your tech device and tech questions to the Lyons Regional Library, where our staff is available to help! Assistance is available any time of the week by appointment. If you have a group and would like to have group instruction we do that too! All ages are welcome and instruction is without charge.

    Basic Computer Skills Class for Seniors

    Town of Lyons Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Lyons Regional Library is pleased to offer a basic computer skills appointments for Seniors at the Lyons Regional Library. Appointments will give instruction in the basics of e-mail, Facebook, and internet skills.  Participants must register. Bring your own laptop or we have computers here to use. Please call the Town of Lyons at 303-823-8250 to register. Ask for Lori LeGault.

    Lyons Summer Book Club – American Eclipse by David Baron

    Help us get the entire town on the same page!  Stop by the Library to pick up a copy of Boulder’s own David Baron’s new book American Eclipse.  Read your copy then pass it along to your neighbor so he can pass it along to his bartender who can pass it along to…you get the idea!  We’ll meet at the Library on Wednesday, August 9th @ 6:30 pm to discuss the book – just in time for the total solar eclipse on August 21.

    Stuffed Animal Sleepover for Babies and Kids!

    Drop your stuffed animal off at the Library during the day on Friday, August 4th for a sleepover at the library. Pick your stuffed animal up on Saturday, August 5th at 10:30 am at our stuffed animal sleepover storytime!

    Dates and times: Drop off your Favorite Stuffed Friend between 10:30am and 5 pm on Friday, August 4th. Then come to a special storytime on Saturday,  August 5th, at 10:30 am. Or pick up your Stuffie any time that day before the library closes at 5pm.

    Dungeons & Dragons For Teens

    Join us for an afternoon of exploring ruins, fighting monsters, and discovering magical treasures! All materials provided; just show up and have fun! Ages 12-18 only.

    Adults-Only LEGOs with Play-Well TEK: Build a working quarry!

    Join us for an adults-only evening of tinkering with all the cool gadgets, gears, and gizmos provided by the fine folks of Play-Well TEK.  We’ll take a step back in Lyons history and build a LEGO quarry complete with pulleys, loaders, and mine carts.

    Learn to solve a Rubix Cube!

    Have you ever wondered how cuber’s are able to solve Rubix cubes with ease? Come to the Library and learn their secrets! One lucky participant will win a Rubix cube!

    Common Cents for Colorado: Taking Control of Your Financial Life

    • Begin or improve your Financial Literacy with the nonprofit group, Common Cents for Colorado. Through a grant the Lyons Regional Library has been providing informative and fun programs surrounding wealth building, debt reduction, fraud protection, and even couponing!
    • Financial Literacy is great for everyone! Regardless of income level, make the most of your hard-earned money. More information to come!
    • Libraries and Librarians are a neutral places and people to provide financial literacy. Ask about any of our nonfiction or fiction materials donated to us by Common Cents.
    • This is a program supported by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) and Smart Investing @ Your Library (through the American Library Association).
